What have we been up to lately ...
What we do ...
At Worms at Work we use large Wormeries we call digester units to process food waste that would otherwise end up in Landfill. The premise of a Wormery is to compost organic matter, in our case your food waste into a nutrient rich natural fertiliser called Worm cast, known by some as black gold. This resulting compost can be used as a green natural organic fertiliser/feed & soil improver for planted beds & green areas etc. So in essence those lovely planted beds on your campus/site have been fed by what was once food waste. You can find our units in schools & colleges to commercial campus's and office complex's up and down the country.
What we have done is to scale up a Wormery - The basics of a small garden wormery remain the same but we have spent many years fine tuning this process which is called Vermicomposting and constantly improve and monitor our units to maximise food waste processing. Depending on a units size it can handle anything from just a few kilos of food waste a week to a few hundred kilos per week! All made possible by an army of one of the most fascinating creatures in the world ... Worms.
Did you know a worm can eat half its own body weight of food in 24 hrs ...
Our units ...
We can supply one or more of our Worm digester units to fit any space and location whatever your requirements. From the home hobbiest size unit to our larger scale commercial units. We will work with you and advise whats best suited for you, the space available and the food waste volumes you are expecting to have.
The size of the unit/s will be dependant on the amount of food waste you would like to process through it, so accurate waste volumes are needed to ensure and maximise any potential units success.
Experience has shown us that food waste diverted to a Worm Digester unit has the potential to process a large percentage of your food waste onsite that would otherwise be sent to landfill or incineration.
